Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Photodynamic Therapy is used very successfully to treat various forms of white skin cancer and in particular its precursors (actinic keratoses). The affected areas are incubated with a light sensitizer that accumulates in the sun-damaged cancer precursor cells. There are two treatment options for this. The conventional Photodynamic Therapy, in which a special light source is used, which is very painful, and the innovative Daylight-PDT. With the new, low-pain Daylight-PDT, the affected skin area is exposed to bright daylight for 2 hours immediately after the application of the sensitizer. What both methods have in common is that the cream enriched in the cells is activated and selectively destroys the affected cells. After a corresponding healing phase with predominantly crust formation, the healthy skin is renewed with a very good lasting effect.
